Congratulations to the Gesu School Class of 2016!

Gesu School is proud of our 41 eighth graders, who graduated on June 15, 2016, at The Church of the Gesu. The Class of 2016 will attend outstanding high schools, and we look forward to learning of their many future achievements!

In addition to being granted diplomas and scholarships, students expressed their gratitude and joy through song and prayer. They presented a class gift to the missions and shared roses with their families to thank them for their support. Fr. Neil Ver’Schneider, S.J., Gesu Chaplain and Assistant Principal, offered a blessing over students. Bryan Carter, Gesu President and CEO, encouraged students to soar in their future endeavors and to exhibit the strong character that they have formed at Gesu School. Said Mr. Carter, “You’ll be known as Gesu graduates with high character – respectful, dependable, resilient – and children who live by the golden rule."

Commencement speaker, Kimberly Baxter, Gesu School Class of 2012 and Merion Mercy Academy Class of 2016, eloquently spoke of her own success in high school as an honor student; in theater as an actor and member of stage crew; and through her dedication to yearbook, newspaper, and community service. Miss Baxter, who received multiple scholarships to The University of Scranton, a Jesuit institution, inspired students: “You determine who you are as a person and what you can achieve in your future. If you believe you can succeed, you will.” She also reminded students to “…be guided by the Charism of the IHM Sisters, which is love, hope and fidelity” and of St. Ignatius of Loyola’s mantra, “Go set the world on fire.”
