As part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration, we turned a photo of the students spelling GESU on the rooftop playground into a card for Pope Francis. Students drew pictures and wrote messages to the Jesuit pontiff, wishing him a happy Catholic Schools Week and inviting him to visit Gesu—Philadelphia's only Jesuit elementary school. Pope Francis is considering a visit to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families in 2015.
Listen to the story on KYW Newsradio 1060.
Below are a few of the messages and drawings the students included in our package to the Pope.
This one was drawn by Blessin, a very talented 2nd grader.
Here's the front and inside of a cute card from PreK.
In case it's hard to read the text on your screen, this one from the 5th grade boys says, "We pray that you will bless our city with a visit! And after you've seen all the sights of American political and religious history, drop by the Gesu School to witness Jesuit ideals reshaping a city!" The front and back of the card [not pictured] included photo clippings of famous sites around Philadelphia.
First grade put together this colorful message.
The other PreK class signed their names. Pretty good for such little ones!
The other second grade sent a nice message.
Here is a shot from the ground while we were spelling GESU on the rooftop playground.
And a few photos of the big card signing.
