It started small. Just a few bottles and some zip lock bags on the wall. But it rapidly grew into something more.
Science lab coordinator Pat Leaf regularly uses the wall outside her lab for interesting science displays. After Christmas break, she conceived the idea of hanging up a few empty drink bottles with the corresponding amount of sugar they contained affixed underneath. She thought it would be a good visual for the children to see just what they are putting into their bodies. Boy, was she right!
Students and teachers alike began bringing Ms. Leaf containers of their favorite beverages to add to the display. "Everyone just got into it," Ms. Leaf explains. As the wall fills up, Ms. Leaf strategizes where to make space for her most important addition—a bottle of water labeled "The Healthy Choice."
If your New Year's resolution has the word "health" in it, take a cue from Gesu's science lab wall and look no further than the beverage in your hand.
